BS (ACS Certification Track) - Sample Program

The following example program is appropriate for a student entering Mizzou with a good high school background in chemistry and mathematics. Students who require Precalculus Mathematics (MATH 1160) and/or have limited prior exposure to chemistry (and thus need to take CHEM 1310) should consult with an advisor to plan a revised schedule. Please note that a student may offset part or all of the foreign language requirement by presenting appropriate high school credit. A student in a BS program also may substitute an appropriate set of upper-level courses taken outside the Chemistry Department for the foreign language courses. (See the list of general degree requirements for details.) This program, with modifications***, may also form the basis of a B.S. with Honors in Chemistry. This example program is presented as a guide only and is not meant to replace consultation with an advisor.

Notes:

§ Students may substitute CHEM 1500H, Honors Intensive General Chemistry, for Chem 32 and 33.

* The scheduling of General Education or Elective courses given above is only a suggestion, since they need not be taken in any particular order. One of them must be designated "Writing Intensive", however.

** A carefully planned course of study in another department consisting of no fewer than 12 hours of upper-level classes may be substituted for a foreign language.

*** For the degree B.S. with Honors in Chemistry, substitute CHEM 4990H (Fall) and 4991H (Winter); a G.P.A. of 3.33 is required of students pursuing Departmental honors.
