George’s proposal, “Use of Solid-State Cycloaddition Reactions to Achieve Switchable Properties of Organic Crystalline Materials” was among a pool of applications submitted by graduate students worldwide.
The ICDD will award George $2,500 to assist in the continuation of studies in his selected field of crystallographic research.
George thanks a pair of mentors for their support: former staff crystallographer Daniel Unruh and George’s research advisor Kristin Hutchins.
“Without these two mentors, this award would not have been possible,” says George.
Unruh is currently a core facility research scientist at the University of Iowa. Dr. Hutchins, an associate professor of chemistry at MU, is among the core faculty at Mizzou’s Materials Science and Engineering Institute — a multidisciplinary materials research hub.
